Lanterns Mistaken for UFOs
Vehicular traffic along M25 was slightly disrupted on Thursday night when dozens of motorists pulled over to take a look at the sky.
Amanda Phillips was on her way home when she suddenly found herself slowing down mesmerised by bright orange lights parading on the air above the road. She and other motorists said they had to stop in awe and amazement of the lights that filled the night sky.
The lights, they said, seemed to be suspended from an invisible thread and were at a height that fireworks could reach. The lights were so high and so bright that even Monique Bass who was quietly watching the sky from her garden did not miss having a clear view of the spectacular sight. Bass, however, said she was sure that those were neither aeroplanes nor helicopters but were like batches of blazing red UFO’s hovering the night sky.
Some residents feared that an alien invasion was already taking place. They said, a group of lights appear to come down from the sky every after around ten minutes while another group of lights emerge.
The police were inundated with calls from residents reporting the unusual sighting. The Defence Ministry said it did not conduct a military exercise in the area at that time.
Authorities called the Stansted Airport air traffic controller to identify whether there was extra-terrestrial activity in the area. However, the air traffic controller said the radar did not detect anything unusual and it later found out that the flying objects were 5-feet high and 3-feet wide Thai lanterns released to the sky for a wedding celebration at Leez Priory.
