The Dead Weather – Jack White again

I like the White Stripes and the Raconteurs so was a bit surprised at another Jack White project yet here it is, The Dead Weather seems to be an outlet for some strange stuff! "Check your lips at the door, woman!/ And shake your hips like battleships!/ Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service!" Now what does that mean?

Still, it’s catchy stuff and definitely worth a listen and ‘The difference between us’ is somewhat dark and brilliant. The entire CD is a combination of discordant guitars, drums, bass and vocals. Perhaps the inclusion of the song ‘I’m Mad’ gives us a clue to the aim of this album, to host the crazier stuff.

Kills singer Alison Mosshart assumes the female lead vocals and sounds like Siouxsie Sioux or PJ Harvey in some parts, has less of a role to play than in last year’s debut album from the The Dead Weather ‘Horehound’ since Jack White shares the vocals this time.

White and Mosshart are both capable of writing addictively catchy tunes but none are evident on this album, with few choruses; however for some reason the madness contained in this album is quite addictive and I listened to it in one sitting. I would recommend previewing a few tracks before purchase as this will not be for everyone, however for me it’s a hit and I must now obtain ‘Horehound ‘which for some strange reason, I missed out on last year.
