Many have said that the 1957 Just One of Those Things album is comparable to Frank Sinatra’s albums that were released during that era. Both contain songs that have swing and jazz sounds and the albums were arranged and conducted by Billy May. In this album, the talented arranger showed great talent in his use of horns and brass in his pieces. Listeners would surely spot the difference between this one and Cole’s previous albums which were dominated by Nelson Riddle and Gordon Jenkins signature styles.
Some of the composers and song writers who contributed to the album’s success were Irving Berlin, E.A. Swan, A. Jackson, L.B. Harte, F.E. Ahlert, J. Young, D. Ellington, B. Russell, R. Bloom and J. Mercer.
Here are some more tracks that are included in the album: A Cottage for Sale, I’m Gonna Sit Right Down (and Write Myself a Letter), Something Makes Me Want to Dance with You, The Song Is Ended (but the Melody Lingers On), When Your Lover Has Gone, Just For The Fun Of It and Who’s Sorry Now.
1957 Just One of Those Things is considered by many to be Nat King Cole’s best album ever. |
